Key facilities such as the Hammock Trail, the Lincoln Heights and Desoto City ball fields, the Preserve of Sun N' Lakes, H.L. Bishop Park, and the Windy Point Park are a few of the parks on inventory. The multi-field sports complex includes softball, soccer and football amenities for all citizens and visitors.
Vicki Pontius became the Parks and Recreation Director in 1998.  In 2010, the Highlands County Natural Resources Department joined with Parks and the combined divisions are now known as Parks & Natural Resources. Vicki has worked for the Board of County Commissioners since 1983.  She holds professional certifications and licenses with the Florida Recreation and Parks Association, the National Restaurant Association, the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.  She served on the Board of Directors for the Florida Aquatic Plant Management Society for three years and was the President of the Society for the year 2007.

In addition, Vicki specializes in grant writing, administration, and project management of past and future recreational facilities.
